FIFA Collect, the internationally recognized digital collectibles arm of FIFA, is set to perform a major system upgrade. This update includes migration to a new blockchain, now known as the FIFA Blockchain, which is EVM-compatible. This technological shift set to take place no earlier than May 20, 2025, is expected to significantly improve the overall performance of the platform, making it scalable and adaptable for future innovation.
Migrating to a More Advanced System
After much planning and development, FIFA Collect is finally set to undergo infrastructure advancement. The essential migration has been scheduled, with users assured of adequate notification prior to the commencement of migration.
During the entire process, all existing users will still have full access to their digital assets. All that’s required of them is to log into their accounts after the migration. Just by doing this, they can enjoy seamless transition and retain access to their previous assets.
Platform Improvement and Wallet Compatibility
With the upgrade, FIFA Collect has promised several enhancements to the user experience. Key among these improvements pertains to the functionality of the platform. Additionally, wallet compatibility is expected to be significantly improved, providing users with an enriched digital interface experience.
Effect on User Interactions
For those who have previously exported their digital collectibles, they are advised to reimport them by May 20. This action ensures that their assets don’t get left out in the migration process. If this window is missed, the collectibles must undergo a manual migration that may require customer support and further verification.
Another noticeable but temporary effect is that FIFA will momentarily enable imports for this procedure. Post migration, users with USDC balances will still be allowed to make transactions until the migration process is complete. After this period, users will only be able to withdraw, not spend their remaining balances.
Moving Away from Algorand
FIFA Collect currently utilizes the Algorand-based wallets, specifically Pera and Defly. However, with the migration, this will cease to exist. Users will no longer be able to use these wallets following the move. Instead, they will be urged to connect using MetaMask or any EVM-compatible wallet via WalletConnect.
A Seamless Transition
During the migration, FIFA Collect will be inaccessible for about twelve hours. But users don’t have to panic. All collectibles currently up for sale on the platform will still be visible and up for sale on the new platform. Of course, if you want to delist before the cutoff date, that is a viable option.
New Cryptocurrency Development
If recent developments are anything to go by, FIFA’s steady steps into the blockchain technology isn’t the end of its digital innovation. The organization’s president, Gianni Infantino, announced during a White House visit in March, at the Crypto Summit, FIFA’s interest in developing a new cryptocurrency token.
This new digital currency, proposed as the FIFA coin, is speculated to attract the entire global audience of the football governing body. Even President Trump expressed enthusiasm towards the idea, suggesting that the FIFA coin could eventually surpass FIFA itself in value.
Creating an intricate blend of football and digital currency, FIFA seems poised to change the crypto game while engaging their fans in a unique and unprecedented way. With the migration, FIFA Collect is taking a big leap forward, embracing advancements in technology to develop a more user-friendly, secure, and reliable platform for digital collectibles.
