London Stock Exchange Launches Blockchain-based Infrastructure for Private Funds with Microsoft Collaboration

In a major breakthrough for the fin-tech industry, London Stock Exchange Group (LSEG) has launched a blockchain-based infrastructure platform, designed specifically for private funds. This launch marks LSEG as the foremost global stock exchange to adopt a blockchain system. Termed as Digital Markets Infrastructure (DMI), the platform has been devised to facilitate the management of all digital asset processes. This includes everything from the issuance and tokenization to the post-trade settlement stages.

Collaboration with Microsoft

The platform’s development has been accomplished in a collaboration between LSEG and technology giant, Microsoft, and runs on Microsoft’s Azure system. LSEG’s aim with the new system is to enable interoperability between distributed ledger technology and traditional financial systems. The system has been designed to help clients manage their assets over the entire continuum of funding. Private funds operational on the DMI comprise the first asset category to be active on the new platform. It is expected that more asset classes will be included in the system in the near future.

Role of Workspaces Users

The platform incorporates a feature that allows users of Workspaces to discover private funds on the DMI platform. This functionality facilitates interaction between general partners and professional investors.

First Transaction

Capital management firm MembersCap and London-based crypto exchange Archax, a Financial Conduct Authority-regulated organization, were the first to get onboard with the new platform. Marking the debut transaction on the platform, MembersCap transacted with Archax, which represented the Cardano Foundation as a nominee.

Microsoft and LSEG’s Vision

Regarding the collaboration with LSEG, Bill Borden, corporate vice president of worldwide financial services at Microsoft, stated that the new blockchain-based system represents a significant example of innovative progress borne out of strategic partnership. Dr. Darko Hajdukovic, the head of digital markets infrastructure at LSEG, envisions the platform to optimize investor access to capital markets and, in turn, improve liquidity. According to him, LSEG is committed to constantly working alongside related parties to tap into efficiencies and connectivity for both traditional and digitally-native assets.

Benefits of the Platform

Overall, the platform is expected to increase access for investors to private market investment opportunities, which have previously been hard to discover or participate in. The launch of analogous initiatives in the blockchain domain by traditional financial giants may expedite the convergence of traditional and decentralized finance, also known as DeFi. This sentiment is echoed by crypto experts, like Nelli Zaltsman, head of JPMorgan’s Kinexys blockchain payments innovation division, who believes this intersection may occur sooner than most expect. With the goal of cooperating with public blockchains allowed by regulatory provisions, Zaltsman, alongside Chainlink Labs co-founder Sergey Nazarov, spoke at the 2025 RWA Summit Cannes. During this event, they revealed that in June 2025, JPMorgan piloted a synchronized settlement technology with Chainlink, which made it possible for JPMorgan to orchestrate transactions across various blockchains using blockchain-based deposits. This development marks an essential step towards the integration of traditional financial systems with the disruptive blockchain technology. It not only signifies the potential of blockchain in remoulding financial markets, but also presents the promise of enhanced efficiency, transparency and security in future financial transactions.
