Bitcoin Almost Hits $80,000: Market Updates and Key Crypto Events

Bitcoin Hits Near $80,000 Mark, Rally Runs into Fourth Day

Following a remarkable four-day rally, Bitcoin approached the $80,000 milestone on Monday before plateauing. The rallying force derives from several catalysts introduced prior to the weekend, even as altcoins recorded a downshift from their peak growth last week.

The cryptocurrency market did not receive any significant push or pronouncement, as no federal agency released a cryptocurrency-related action between Friday and Monday. All scheduled future events exist outside the current market activity scope. This includes the NYSE Arca-listed ETF conversion of Grayscale’s Zcash trust set to take place on Tuesday, and Federal Reserve Chair Kevin Warsh’s address at Jackson Hole within the week.

Bitcoin Market Activity Overview

After oscillating between $76,718 and $79,955, Bitcoin traded at $78,995, an impressive 1.8% increase in 24 hours and 22.9% over seven days, according to data from CoinGecko. Coincidentally, the flagship crypto reached a whisker away from $80,000 on Coinbase; at $79,999.99. This represents the closest Bitcoin has been to this critical threshold since May 15th, when it reached a high of $81,650.

However, it’s worth noting that the current value remains 37.3% below the cryptocurrency’s all-time high of $126,080 recorded in October 2025. In a sign of sustained Bitcoin interest, the past week’s gain of 22.9% is just slightly under the previous week’s robust 23.7% growth rate.

Rise and Fall of Altcoins

As for other cryptocurrencies, Ether traded at $2,481, showing a 0.7% day gain and a buoyant 29.8% weekly growth. Conversely, XRP dipped by 2.4% to $1.48, however, maintained a substantial 47.8% weekly gain.

Meanwhile, Solana and BNB demonstrated slight movements, with the former rising 1.3% to $96.82, and the latter maintaining a flat growth at $704. As a result of these extensive market activities, the total cryptocurrency market value stood at $2.68 trillion, marking a minimal decline of 0.7% over 24 hours. Bitcoin’s market dominance stood steadily at 59.1% over the same period.

Crypto Market and Global Financial Outlook

Analyzing other dimensions of the market, the trading volume witnessed a 19% fall to $128 billion from Friday’s $158 billion. Additionally, the Crypto Fear & Greed Index registered a score of 73 on Monday, its maximum level in two weeks.

A mixed reaction was observed among tokens, with a decline in 80 out of the 123 largest non-stablecoin tokens. Interestingly, tokens that surged dramatically the last week witnessed the deepest falls. Conversely, privacy token Zcash closed at $855 on August 23, hitting a high of $888 before settling at $822 on Monday.

In other global financial developments, the 30-year Treasury yield closed at 5.27% on Friday, with the 10-year ending at 4.74%. Equity markets also registered dips, with the S&P 500 down 0.28% at 7,653 and the Nasdaq Composite down 0.76% to 25,980.

Future Projections for Crypto

On a legislative front, the Senate is due to provide cloture on the CLARITY Act on September 15th, coinciding with the FOMC’s scheduled meeting. In the meantime, spot Bitcoin ETFs registered inflows aggregating to $307.5 million on Friday, rounding up the week to $1.92 billion.

Notably, Aerodrome token value surged, following the launch of tokenized US equities on Base. Other significant seven-day upwards movers included Lighters LIT, which rose 5.2% to $3.52, and token ‘Stacks’ which showed a substantial growth of 85.6%.

Conclusion

To sum up, the performance of Bitcoin and the broader cryptocurrency market in the past week showcased the sector’s dynamic nature. The next few weeks will undoubtedly bring new developments, influencing global cryptocurrency trends. The continued acceptance of crypto, as demonstrated by the NYSE conversion and increased interest in Bitcoin ETFs, strongly suggests a promising future for cryptocurrency.
