Bitcoin Soars Following Federal Reserve’s Decision to Hold Benchmark Rate, Despite Mixed Market Reactions

The Bitcoin value climbed significantly, above $64,400, following the Federal Reserve’s decision to hold its benchmark rate at the range of 3.50%-3.75% on Wednesday. However, the currency gave back some of its gains after comments by Fed Chair Kevin Warsh. The comment that there wasn’t a soft inflation target from the Fed Chair caused Bitcoin’s value to slightly drop, trading just under $64,000.

Crypto traders have demonstrated that they are more influenced by Warsh’s inflation rhetoric than the rate decision itself, which markets had mostly priced in. This decision was unexpected, with three FOMC members – Cleveland Fed President Beth Hammack, Minneapolis Fed President Neel Kashkari, and Dallas Fed President Lorie Logan – dissenting towards a 25 basis point hike. It is unusual to witness dissent within the Federal Reserve Committee, and this was the first instance in years.

Bitcoin’s Reaction to Interest Rates

The hold in interest rates came as a crash for futures, which had assigned roughly 35% odds to a hike, according to CME FedWatch data. The decision against a hike was the second one under Warsh, who took over the Fed earlier this year after President Donald Trump nominated him to replace Jerome Powell.

According to the statement, the inflation rate continues to be elevated beyond the 2% goal, which is partially a reflection of the supply shocks that have spurred price increases in certain sectors, including energy. Despite economic activity expanding, uncertainty remains high due to the ongoing conflict in the Middle East.

Impacts on Crypto Markets

Despite heightened inflation rates Warsh has no tolerance for, this decision did not appease the crypto market ahead of the announcement. Other factors also played a role, such as the recent spike in Oil prices after recent statements by Trump about responding forcefully to the ongoing Middle Eastern conflicts and American personnel attacks.

The 10-year Treasury yield surged to 4.62%, near its high for the year, and the Dow Jones plummeted almost 400 points in early trading before recovering some of the losses after the hold announcement.

Apart from Bitcoin, Ethereum maintained a steady value close to $1,900, and XRP around $1.06. The total crypto market capitalization stood at approximately $2.29 trillion, increasing by 2.2% in the past 24 hours, while the Crypto Fear & Greed Index is currently at 35, representing fear territory.

Reactions of Other Cryptocurrencies

Gold experienced an increase of 1.2% on the day, while the S&P 500 and Nasdaq managed to cut early losses following the decision before the Nasdaq went down 0.4% after Warsh’s comments.

This hold-on decision has extended to six consecutive meetings. During this stretch, Bitcoin has fallen from over $83,000 in late January when a risk sell-off deepened across markets, and bottomed under $76,000 when the Fed held rates in a rare 8-4 split under Powell.

The AI-powered attention platform’s token, KAITO, led in gains among the top 300 tokens, rising 21% to $1.34. The token has more than doubled in July due to a wave of retail purchases.

There were also movements in larger-cap crypto entities. For instance, Monero (XMR) climbed 4.4% to $354.34 on more than $106 million in volume, and Cardano (ADA) rose by 6.1% to $0.168. Jupiter (JUP), the lesser-known crypto, added 5.6%.

Meanwhile, DeXe (DEXE) fell 9.5% to $2.78 on nearly $80 million in volume, leading the top-300 decliners. Other losers included Kite (KITE), Bitway (BTW), LayerZero (ZRO), and Ethena (ENA), all falling without any obvious reasons.

The Lorenzo Protocols BANK saw its collapse stretch further, down 48% to $0.18 on more than $215 million in volume. This Bitcoin liquid-staking token had surged nearly 500% in one week to a record high of $0.27 on July 20.
