Bitcoin Treasury Company Strategy Acquires Additional Bitcoins, Boosting Total Holdings to Over $62 Billion

Bitcoin strategy company, Strategy (formerly known as MicroStrategy) has recently announced that it has acquired an additional 1,045 bitcoins. The purchase, finalized between June 2 and June 8, equated to roughly $110.2 million. This acquisition pegs the average bitcoin price at $105,426. The recent purchase, mentioned in the 8-K filing with the Securities and Exchange Commission, is an addition to Strategy’s burgeoning BTC treasury.

The Total Holdings and the Implications

Since the recent purchase, Strategy now holds 582,000 BTC in total. This sizable collection is estimated to be worth over $62 billion. This massive investment was acquired at an average price of $70,086 per bitcoin. It approximates a total cost of around $40.8 billion, once fees and expenses are included. Notably, these figures were provided by the company’s Executive Chairman and Co-founder, Michael Saylor himself. It’s interesting to note that Strategy’s BTC holdings represent around 2.8% of the total supply of Bitcoin – capped at 21 million. Therefore, the implied paper gains from this venture are estimated to be around $21 billion.

Understanding Strategy’s Acquisition Means

Strategy’s latest acquisitions were largely funded using proceeds from the sales of its perpetual Strike preferred stock (STRK) and its Strife preferred stock (STRF). Just last week, Strategy sold 626,639 shares of its STRK stock for approximately $66.4 million. There’s still about $20.6 billion worth of STRK shares available for issuance and sale under the program. Meanwhile, the company also sold 432,679 STRF shares for around $45.8 million. There’s another $2 billion worth of STRF shares still in hand. However, no shares of its Class A common stock (MSTR) were sold last week, with about $18.6 billion worth of shares still available.

Strategy’s New Bitcoin Acquisition Venture

More recently, Strategy announced an initial $1 billion offering for another perpetual preferred stock product – Stride (STRD). Pronouncing its financial moves, STRD offers a fixed 10% non-cumulative annual dividend and is non-convertible. This financial venture exists together with STRK, a convertible stock offering an 8% fixed annual dividend, and STRF, a non-convertible stock providing a 10% fixed cumulative annual dividend.

Rising Corporate Bitcoin Adoption

Due to the efforts from Strategy’s Bitcoin acquisition model, there are presently 144 companies that have adopted some form of Bitcoin treasury. Of these, 114 are publicly traded. New entrants to this growing club are – Twenty One, Nakamoto, Trump Media, GameStop, and K33. These companies join the likes of Metaplanet, Semler Scientific, and KULR in making massive Bitcoin investments. Industry analysts predict that Strategy and companies following a similar business model could add up to $330 billion to their Bitcoin treasuries over the next five years. This growth in corporate Bitcoin adoption is likely driven by the more pro-crypto political environment in the U.S.

Strategy’s Solid Financial Position

Despite some reservations from investors, Strategy’s market cap continues to trade at a significant premium to its Bitcoin net asset value. Although there are concerns about its premium to NAV valuation and several Bitcoin acquisition programs, analysts argue that Prospects look manageable, given the relatively low debt levels and no due payments till 2028. Overall, Strategy’s financial position looks solid as MSTR closed up 1.5% last Friday at $374.47, even with Bitcoin’s flat trading due to the recent Trump-Musk feud-induced volatility. According to recent data, MSTR is presently up 2.3% in pre-market trading on Monday, charting a 25% rise year-to-date.
