The Closure of Blockchain-Based Game Ember Sword
The blockchain-based game industry has witnessed a surprising turn of events as Ember Sword, holding a promising position among Ethereum-based MMORPGs (Massively Multiplayer Online Role Playing Games), has announced its closure. Launched in early access just months previously, the project’s abrupt ending is attributable to a lack of requisite funding.
Reason for the Shutdown
The developer team responsible for this cutting-edge game made an official statement on the game’s website. The message delineated the insufficiency of funding for additional development on the game, forcing the team to suspend the multi-player online gaming project.
“We explored every possible way forward. But in today’s market – where even some of the most promising projects are shutting down – we couldn’t find a path to keep building, ” said the dev team, as it expressed an inability to survive in the current market situation.
Recent Trend in Web3 Games
Ember Sword joins a list of several other web3 games that have ceased operations this year. This expanding list includes names like Deadrop, Nyan Heroes, Tatsumeeko, reflecting an overarching trend in the web3 gaming world.
As of last December, the game had introduced its public early access having transitioned to the layer-2 network Mantle after ditching the Polygon (POL) ecosystem for Immutable X. Despite these significant milestones, the game will not go further towards an official launch post its most recent announcement.
Financial Impact of the Closure
The closure was furthermore reflected in the deteriorating price chart of Ember Sword’s native token, EMBER. The coin’s recent trends showcase a dip in its value, revealing the deep financial impact that the shutdown bears on its investors.
“This isn’t the ending any of us wanted. But we wanted to sincerely thank you for being here, for believing in this vision, and for helping make Ember Sword something we’ll never forget,” said the team expressing gratitude towards their supporters.
In the immediate aftermath of the announcement, the game’s native token EMBER witnessed negligible price action with a reduction of 3% within 24 hours. Its price settled at $0.00047, a substantial plummet from its original peak at $0.068. The current market capitalization of EMBER stands at $80,657.
Past Successes of Ember Sword
Despite its current predicament, Ember Sword had its moments of success, generating significant buzz on social media in 2021. The game managed to gather a whopping $203 million through NFT land sales torching 35,000 players.
The team behind Ember Sword included luminaries from the gaming industry, including Rob Pardo, who formerly worked as the chief creative officer at Blizzard Entertainment. Pardo was renowned as the lead designer of the popular gaming franchise World of Warcraft. In addition, Dennis “Thresh” Fong, a retired esports player, was also part of the advisory team.
