Unprecedented Low in Ether Stored on Exchanges Could Signal Supply Squeeze

The quantity of Ethereum stored on centralized cryptocurrency exchanges has hit an all-time low, creating the perfect environment for a potential supply squeeze, according to cryptoanalysts. Experts observe that the Ether exchange balances have recently fallen to a record low of 8.7% – a figure not seen since the Ethereum network commenced operation in 2015.

The Cryptocurrency Exchange Balance Situation

As the close of last week, the balance of Ethereum on digital exchanges had decreased to 8.7%, maintaining a steady low at 8.8% as at Sunday. The sources reveal that since the start of July, Ethereum balance on crypto exchanges has experienced a significant reduction of 43%. The decrease came around the same period when the purchase of digital asset treasury (DAT) began to increase significantly.

Putting it in clear terms, macro investment research feed Milk Road made a note that Ethereum is silently treading towards its tightest-ever supply setting. The agency also pointed out the rarity of this status in the past.

Ethereum and Bitcoin: A Comparative Insight

Meanwhile, Bitcoin – another leading cryptocurrency – painted a different picture as its holding on exchanges stood at 14.7%, considerably higher compared to Ethereum, according to available data from Glassnode.

Milk Road observed that Ethereum continuously finds its way into areas that don’t typically engage in sales, including staking, re-staking, layer-2 activities, DATs, long-term custody, and collateral loops. This trend, according to the agency, suggests that a supply squeeze could trigger a price momentum surge in Ethereum.

The OBV Breakout and Price Predictions

Sykodelic, a leading cryptoanalyst, noted on Friday that an On-Balance Volume (OBV)—a momentum indicator driven by volume activity—breakout occurred above resistance. However, the price was rejected, signaling a classic divergence that often indicates hidden buying strength which typically comes before a price increase.

He also implied that the current Price Action (PA) exhibits a bullish tendency and predicted a price surge before an eventual significant drawdown.

Although Ethereum prices have mostly stayed above the $3,000 mark in the past five days, analysts observed some price resistance at the $3,200 level. Over the previous 24 hours, Ethereum has remained steady around the $3,050 area, although it wouldn’t break past the resistance.

Ethereum vs. Bitcoin: Performance Overview

Observers were also drawn to Ethereum’s price performance against Bitcoin last week. Trends indicated that the ETH/BTC pair had managed to break over the downward line, showcasing Ethereum’s potential for growth.

In conclusion, the latest developments depict Ethereum in a promising light. As more Ethereum gets absorbed into non-selling areas, creating a tight supply landscape, industry analysts project a potential price increase spurred by a supply squeeze. This, coupled with a silent yet strong performance against Bitcoin, underscores a potential upswing in Ethereum market dynamics.
