The recent past witnessed an unfortunate plummet in the value of the SOL token, Solana’s proprietary cryptocurrency. The biggest hit fell last week, leaving Solana at a critical point of support, in tune with a general worsening of the cryptocurrency market climate. This was further established by a noticeable upswing in liquidations.
Solana’s Downturn and Notable Liquidations
The crash of Solana, in terms of erased value, translated to several billion dollars. It was, in fact, in excess of $400 million that got liquidated in a bearish turn of events driven largely by jittery investors opting to pull back their bullish positions.
Such an unfortunate spell of liquidations, particularly those of a bullish nature, propel a bearish upshot. The reasoning can be traced to the fact that bullish positions are essentially closed out by exchanges in the event of, and as a result of, such liquidations.
In the wake of last Monday, Solana underwent a major trading downturn when the liquidations skyrocketed to more than $250 million. Furthermore, data from CoinGlass reflects that Solana’s bullish investors bore the brunt of major liquidations during this fallout.
By the end of the same week, that is, on Friday, Solana liquidations were valued at $82 million. In totality, the week witnessed liquidations in excess of $400 million.
In a related development, futures open interest showed a substantial drop in those who held interest in investing. On the preceding Sunday, it stood at $13.4 billion, seeing a decline from the earlier monthly high of $17.1 billion. Such trends of plummeting open interest are clear indicators of investors’ inclination to hold back, especially prompted by the darkening market climate.
Despite the gloom, Solana isn’t beyond some potential rays of hope in the form of a few forthcoming events.
Imminent Bright Lights on Solana’s Horizon
For Solana, the recently unveiled REX-Osprey SOL + Staking ETF (SSK) spins a silver lining. The REX-Osprey ETF has remained steadfast in attracting inflows that suggest strong underlying demand. The current standing of its held assets amounts to approximately $301 million, vouching to the fact that it ranks among the most sought-after altcoin ETFs.
Investors’ continued interest in Solana likely lends the potential for a hearty scenario when the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission gives its nod of approval to the pending spot SOL ETFs. Filing for these ETFs is creditable to organizations like Canary and Grayscale, known for their roles in the crypto trading markets.
The forthcoming Alpenglow upgrade in Solana’s Kitty is another positive trigger. This upgrade is expected to roll in improved network features, some of them being accelerated speeds and an architectural shift from the existing proof-of-authority model to the more advanced proof-of-staking.
An Analysis of Solana’s Price Trajectory
The last week marked a critical juncture for Solana’s valuation as the price stumbled to a low of $191. This downturn assumes significance given that it ran parallel to the lower threshold of the trading range of the Murrey Math Lines, as well as the 38.2% Fibonacci Retracement level.
In tune with the 100-day Exponential Moving Average, it’s highly likely that Solana’s price recovers to retest the all-important psychological level of $250 – a move that could indicate a potential upside of 26% from its current position.
At the flip side, a slipping below the ascending trendline that has been defining the lowest swings from June could potentially risk undermining the positive forecasts for Solana’s price. Until then, the cryptocurrency market shall keenly watch the unfolding scenario in Solana’s backdrop.
