State Street, Galaxy Asset Management, and Ondo Finance Partner for Tokenized Liquidity Fund Launch on Solana

State Street Investment Management, Galaxy Asset Management, and Ondo Finance are merging their financial capabilities to build a tokenized liquidity fund. It points towards the future of financial transactions, utilizing public blockchains to provide a constant 24/7 onchain liquidity. The fund, known as SWEEP, short for State Street Galaxy Onchain Liquidity Sweep Fund, aims to accept and disburse using the stablecoin, PayPal. This collaboration comprises distinguished firms accredited investors.

Seed Funding and Major Backing

Ondo Finance is expected to pump an initial $200 million into the fund, thus backing the venture as a tokenized real-world asset (RWA) issuer. With this investment, Ondo reinforces State Street’s tokenization stack. The SWEEP project will also benefit from the infrastructure provided by the digital currency financial services and investment management company, Galaxy Digital. As far as custodian duties go, State Street Bank and Trust Company, a branch of State Street Investment Management, will lead the charge.

Project Rollout

Planning has been executed for the fund’s initiation on Solana, a high-performance blockchain, by early 2026. This project will be followed by launches on other networks including Ethereum and Stellar, utilizing Chainlink’s Cross-Chain Interoperability Protocol (CCIP). The partnership looks to push traditional financial services towards blockchain technology, merging the accustomed financial world with the dynamic digital assets landscape.

Rising Competition in Onchain Cash

This collaborative effort marks another significant expansion into the evolving competition of determining what onchain cash will look like for institutions. Major players such as BlackRock and Franklin Templeton were already offering tokenized cash management vehicles. Alongside these companies, Ondo has been promoting its services onchain by integrating Treasury Bonds and other credit exposures into onchain platforms that can be utilized within cryptocurrency markets.

Tokenization: The Future of TradFi

With this partnership, the traditional financial system edges closer towards “TradFi”, a term referring to the traditional financial space but with a digital twist, as pointed out by Kim Hochfeld, the Global Head of Cash and Digital Assets for State Street Investment Management. The function of tokenization is quickly becoming a significant link between traditional finance and the onchain world, a sentiment echoed by Ian De Bode, President of Ondo Finance.

Tokenized Funds and Digital Equities

The announcement comes as tokenized funds and tokenized equities become seen as more than isolated cases. They resemble components of an emerging onchain capital market stack, opening the gate for digital assets to go mainstream.

Onchain Capital and Role of Partners

Superstate, another player in this field, has opened the floor to onchain capital fundraising. Its initiative enables SEC-registered public firms to raise capital directly through its Direct Issuance Programs on Ethereum and Solana. The collaboration between State Street, Galaxy, and Ondo highlights how traditional finance and digital asset firms are commingling to innovate while maintaining regulatory compliance.

Role of Solana Blockchain

The Solana Blockchain was selected for its track record of facilitating tokenized assets and high-speed trading. Substantial institutions have chosen Solana for their digital assets strategy, such as Western Union, which handles more than $100 billion in annual remittance volume and Pfizer, which manages $2 trillion of merchant payment volume annually. More recently, exchange-traded funds (ETFs) on Solana have reported nearly $1 billion in managed assets. The SWEEP project will initially take off on Solana and then extend to Stellar and Ethereum, enabling the project to interact with various ecosystems wherein stablecoins and RWA tokens are a significant portion of the infrastructure.
