Robust Growth in Tokenized Stocks Trading on Robinhood Chain Overtakes Solana Venues

"Imaginative depiction of tokenized stocks as digital coins and stock certificates, featuring prominent trading platforms and companies including Robinhood, Solana, Nvidia, SpaceX, Apple, and GameStop. Robinhood's trading volume bar is significantly larger, illustrating high trading volume. Elements of memecoin influence are tastefully represented. Robinhood Chain, a recently launched blockchain by popular stock brokerage platform Robinhood, is witnessing a surge in tokenized stock activity. Over the past week, the daily volume of decentralized exchange (DEX) trades involving tokenized stocks on Robinhood Chain averaged $29.7 million. This performance surpasses that of Solana, another popular blockchain platform for tokenized stocks, combining its two stock-trading platforms, xStocks, and Backpack’s Sunrise. These two platforms averaged $11.1 million and $13.4 million, respectively, in daily trade volumes over the same period.

Robinhood Chain’s Purpose

Robinhood established its blockchain to facilitate putting equities on-chain. Until mid-July, the platform’s main activity was primarily linked to meme coin speculation. Gradually, tokenized stocks launched with meme coins as their liquidity pairs rose in prominence. This method locked real equity supply in pools and subsequently catalyzed an increase in stock trading. CEO of Robinhood, Vlad Tenev, views this equities expansion as the key purpose of Robinhood Chain. In his words, the Chain exists to make real-world assets programmable, globally portable, and constantly accessible, maintaining the product quality expected from Robinhood.

Leading Stocks on Robinhood Chain

Tokenized Nvidia emerged as Robinhood Chain’s most traded stock with past daily volumes of $13.9 million. Next was SpaceX with $6.2 million, followed closely by Apple at $4.5 million and GameStop bringing up the rear with $2.2 million. Recent surges in volume can be attributed to launch platforms Bankr and long.xyz, which from mid-July began allowing users to create meme coins backed by tokenized stock liquidity across over 90 tickers. Now, most of Robinhood Chains’ top 100 pools carry these meme coins, trading against leading stocks including NVDA, TSLA, INTC, RBLX, and SPCX.

Effect of Meme Coins

Because these meme coins hold tokenized shares as pool collateral, their trading produces stock-token volume as a byproduct. Also, the shares remain locked during trades. This activity has elevated the daily active tokenized-stock traders on Robinhood Chain, peaking around 20,000 in the week of July 20. This figure is the highest among any stock-token platform tracked. Despite Robinhood Chain’s recent success, Binance’s bStocks on BNB Chain outperforms it with $676.8 million in daily DEX volume over the same week. This figure is over 20 times Robinhood’s volume.

The Broader Context

Looking at the broader picture, tokenized stocks still account for a minimal portion of Robinhood Chain. The platform achieved roughly $444 million in total DEX volume against $81 million in active real-world assets. In contrast, meme coins such as CASHCAT and PONS contribute the bulk of Robinhood’s total DEX volume. Despite the recent success of Robinhood Chain in trading tokenized stocks, Solana maintains a commanding lead in overall DEX volume, value locked and users. However, Robinhood Chain is now a major contender in the market for tokenized stocks, clearing more value than any Solana venue, just three weeks after its launch. This development is indicative of a broader trend of integrating traditional stock markets with blockchain technology. It represents a novel approach for improving stock market efficiency and inclusivity by making real-world assets programmable and globally portable.
