Solana, the team behind the pioneering blockchain technology, has revealed their strategic long-term roadmap. Their ambitious goal is to transform Solana blockchain into the very foundation of International Capital Markets (ICMs) around the globe by the year 2027.

Defining Internet Capital Markets (ICMs)

The term ‘Internet Capital Markets’ or ICMs was coined by Akshay, an ex-core team member of the Solana Foundation. ICMs refer to a globally accessible ledger where entities, currencies, and various cultures are tokenized. In a nutshell, it offers anyone with internet access an entryway into the capital markets. As per Solana’s original mission, the decentralized backbone for ICMs is what they have aimed to construct.

Challenges and Solutions: Improving Bandwidth and Reducing Latency

According to the Internet Capital Markets Roadmap recently made public by Solana, the key improvements necessary to realize this goal are increasing bandwidth and reducing latency (IBRL). However, the organization acknowledges that these factors are essential but insufficient. The roadmap asserts that the third critical pillar of their strategy must focus on dealing with the intricacies of market microstructures. Until recently, the divergence between the market microstructure for ICM from Traditional Finance, or TradFi, was not clearly established. However, as per Solana’s roadmap, the ecosystems builders have now consolidated around a shared vision, referred to as Application-Controlled Execution (ACE). The primary objective of ACE is to enable smart contracts to have millisecond-level control over transaction ordering.

Architectural Improvement Plans

For instance, within the next three months, the roadmap proposes the commencement of the Jitos Block Assembly Marketplace (BAM) transaction processing system. This system is designed to offer traders and validators novel tools to enhance performance and generate value.

Launch of DoubleZero: A Dedicated Network

In the medium term, the roadmap also underlines the commencement of DoubleZero. This is a dedicated peer-to-peer fiber network aimed at replacing the public internet for Solana transactions. This network is undergoing tests with over 100 validators and has a 3% share of the mainnet stake, with a full launch scheduled for mid-September. These proposed developments follow Solana’s recent network upgrade, which boosted block capacity by 20%, taking it to 60 million compute units. The roadmap also unveils further plans for increased throughput before the year 2025 culminates.
